Private tutor agency offers parents of dyslexic children a different approach to specialist private tuition for dyslexia
Adam Caller, founder of Tutors International, explains how his agency teaches children with dyslexia and how a condition seen as a learning difficulty can be changed into an educational advantage for the child
OXFORD, UK, January 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tutors International provides full-time live-in tutors to families around the world, a large proportion of which have turned to private tuition following dissatisfaction with the way a school has dealt with their child's dyslexia. Many dyslexic children struggle in the mainstream education system if their learning difficulty is not managed and supported adequately. Adam Caller, founder of Tutors International, explains how parents of dyslexic children can expect a different approach from his private tutor agency. "I follow debates in the media about Dyslexia with keen interest and the recent coverage of the comments from Labour backbencher Graham Stringer disappointed me greatly. We need to stop debating whether dyslexia exists, and instead tackle the root of this problem; children have different learning styles, and some cannot be accommodated by a system that groups large numbers of children together and expects them to benefit equally from the same teaching style," explained Adam.
When asked how his agency approaches the tuition of dyslexic children, Adam replied; "Most importantly, we prefer to teach children with the attitude that their dyslexia has no negative impact, it simply means that teaching them has to be approached differently. Many of the children that I have taught with dyslexic profiles have extraordinary strengths in pictorial reasoning and logical inference," Adam enthused. "If these children are taught in such a way that these strengths are used to the full, with techniques that minimise difficulties with the written word, then they develop into students with more resources for learning, not less. Making their learning style into a learning advantage, rather than a learning difficulty is the key to helping these children, rather than arguing about whether the condition exists."
