Widespread joy that California state court has withdrawn ruling that home schooled children must be taught by credentialed teachers is misplaced, says home schooling expert
Adam Caller, founder of Tutors International, a leading provider of full-time live-in tutors for home schooled children asserts that the second appellate court of Los Angeles has failed once again to address the core issue of the quality of home education.

OXFORD, UK, October 02, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tutors International founder Adam Caller has released a statement in reaction to the reversal of the California State ruling regarding the credentialed status of parents wishing to home school their children. Tutors International provides fully-credentialed full-time private tutors to families wishing to educate their children outside of the state system. Following widespread condemnation of the decision in February to force all home schooling parents to gain credentialed status, the Second District appellate court in Los Angeles recently overturned that ruling. The court found that, just like private schools, individual parents are exempt from the requirement to have been awarded credentialed status by the state.

"Even though the court's decision was met by such widely publicized joy in the home-schooling community, I was dismayed to read about this," Adam said. "Not because of the decision in and of itself, but because it demonstrates to me that the most important issue relating to this entire subject is not being addressed; that of the quality of the education the child receives. Whether the home educator is credentialed or not is irrelevant compared to whether the education being received is of a measurably high standard. This would be achieved by a standardized curriculum, to ensure that the child is not being disadvantaged by a home education. When the California State and home-schooling community begin to address this issue, I think that I will share some of that joy and sense of relief."
